Work hard and with gladness all the time, as though working for Christ, doing the will of God with all your heart.
Have you heard the story of Ananias and Sapphira? The story from Acts 5 goes like this: Annaias and his wife Sapphira were believers in the young Christian community. Ananias owned some land that he sold. He decided to bring some of the money from the sale of the land to the church. He and his wife decided to say they were giving all of the money to the church. God told Peter about the lie. Peter said, "Ananias, why are you lying about the money? You are lying to God."
With that, Ananias fell down dead. Several hours later, his wife Sapphira came looking for him. Peter asked her, "Are you giving all of the money from the sale of your land to the church?" Sapphira answered, "Yes." She fell down dead also and was buried next to her husband.
Why was God so harsh with Ananias and Sapphira? Did he want them to give all of the money to the church? To understand why God was so angry, you have to understand what God values. God doesn't appreciate lying. He doesn't like people doing nice things simply to be praised. If Ananias and Sapphira had said, "We sold some land. We want to give some of the money to the church," God would have been pleased with their generosity and truthfulness.
What does God value? He values being kind to others-not to get thanked but just to help someone else. God is cares about "why" you are helping.
Try writing something that you can do for someone else today.
Now answer this question: WHY am I going to do this?
Every day is a gift from God. Every day, be a cheerful giver JUST for God!
