Servant-Working: God's kind of hero

Memory Verse

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.

What does it take to be a true hero for God? Time for a quiz on Bible Heroes! Can you name these heroes of God?

1. He was a wealthy man with no children. When God told him to move to a foreign country, he obeyed. Genesis 12

2. He was sold as a slave by his family. He spent years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. He became the 2nd most powerful person in Egypt and saved an entire country from starvation. Genesis 41

3. Her family had been taken captive and sent to live in a foreign country. She was young and beautiful when she was chosen to save her people. Esther 2

4. She was a teenage Jewish girl when she was chosen by God to become the mother of the Savior. Luke 2: 26-56

How did you do? The most important thing to know about Abraham was that he obeyed God's call. He trusted in God's plan for his life.

Joseph was able to tell his family, "You tried to hurt me, but I know that everything that happened to me was meant by God for good." Joseph trusted in God's plan-no matter what other people did to him.

Esther was the queen, but the king was a man who made quick and sometimes foolish decisions. She had the job to go tell the king that his last decision was really bad. Before she went, she asked every Jewish person in her country to fast and to pray for her. She believed in the power of prayer.

Mary was an ordinary girl when God invited her to play a major part in his plan of salvation. She said to God's invitation, "May it be to me as you have said." She trusted God no matter what the future brought.

What do all these heroes have in common? They weren't all old, or wise, or wealthy. They weren't all brave, or loud, or athletic. The one thing they had in common was that they trusted in God no matter what happened to them. That's the sign of God’s kind of hero.  Like the heroes of the Bible, you have gifts from God. If you trust that God has a plan for you and serve him with your gifts, you too can be God’s kind of hero!
