Memory Verse

Philippians 2:3-4

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Have you ever felt alone? Sometimes, Jesus went off by himself to be alone when he talked to God. But Jesus didn't spend all his time alone. He had 12 very special friends that we call disciples. What do you know about Jesus' closest friends? Can you name the following disciples?

He was a tax collector when Jesus befriended him. (Matthew 9)
Jesus changed his name from Simon to _________.(John 1)
He couldn't believe that Jesus was alive until he saw Jesus' hands. (John 20)
He met Jesus, then went to bring his brother to meet Jesus also. (John 1)
He wondered aloud if anything good could ever come from Nazareth, which was Jesus' hometown.(John 1)

How did you do? Matthew or Levi was the tax collector. Simon's name became

more famous as Peter. When Thomas personally saw Jesus after the resurrection, he declared, "My Lord and my God!" Andrew was following John the Baptist, when he met Jesus. He brought his brother Simon to meet Jesus also. When Nathanael's friend Philip told him about the Messiah, Nathanael couldn't believe that the Messiah could come from Nazareth. But as soon as he met Jesus, he said, "Jesus, you are the son of God. You are the King of Israel."

Jesus didn't do life alone. He had friends. Jesus' friends were important to him. He gave us an example to follow: our friends should be important to us. Choose your friends wisely. Love them. Support them. Serve them. Thank God for your friends!
