Image-Reflecting: God's justice, mercy, and grace.

Memory Verse

Titus 3:4-5

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.

God rescued us! We are forgiven because of God's mercy! What does God's mercy have to do with the way we treat others? Everything! Jesus told a story to make sure that we get it.

The story goes like this: The kingdom of God is like a king who decided one day to collect all the money that was owed to him. He called one servant before him and said, "You owe me more that $100,000. Pay me now or you, your wife, your children, and everything that you own must be sold to pay me."

The servant cried, "Please give me one more chance. I'll pay you back."

The king felt sorry for his servant so he said, "I have a better idea. I will just cancel your debt so you won't owe me anything. Go enjoy your new freedom."

As the servant left the palace and headed home to tell his family the wonderful news, he came across a friend who owed him $10. "Give me my $10!" demanded the servant. But the friend didn't have it on him so the servant called the police to throw his friend into jail until the $10 was paid up.

Some other servants of the king saw what happened. They ran to tell the king. The king was outraged. He called the servant before him and said, "What did you do? I forgave your debt of $100,000. You couldn't do the same for a $10 debt? I will treat you exactly the same as you treated your friend. Police, throw this man into jail. Sell everything he has to pay me my money!"

So what does God's wonderful mercy have to do with the people around us? Everything. God will treat us the way we treat others. If we take God's love and share it with people around us, God will bless us with even more. But if we take God's forgiveness for ourselves and then are unforgiving to others, God will reject us. Get it? Good!
