God-Worshiping: Trust in the Lord.

Memory Verse

Proverbs 3:5, 6.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

2 Timothy 2:15 (CEV) Do your best to win God’s approval as a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed.

What if it were you? Suppose you were an Israelite who worshipped God even though you lived in a foreign country. One day you noticed workers building a statue that was 90 feet tall. You watched them cover the entire statue with gold. Then messengers came with this announcement: This statue is in honor of our king. Everyone must bow down and worship the king's statue.

Uh-oh! You know that God says you must only worship Him. No idols for you. You also know that not worshipping the statue could mean death. What would you do?

This actually happened to three Israelite friends. Their names were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. What did they do when they heard the announcement? They decided to keep praying only to God, no matter what happened.

The king heard about their disobedience. Furious, he summoned them to explain. He threatened to throw them into a blazing furnace where they would burn to death. What would you say to this angry king? Here's what the three Israelites said: "King, if we are thrown into the fiery furnace, our God is able to save us. Even if He doesn't save us, we will only worship Him."

The king's anger burned against them. He ordered that they be thrown into the furnace. How scared would you feel? They didn't know if God would choose to save them or not, but they still trusted in Him.

What happened? As the king watched, he noticed them walking around in the furnace. What had happened? He shouted into the furnace, "Come out!" When they did, they were fine. They didn't even smell like smoke. The king said, "May your God be praised! He sent an angel to rescue you."

The king learned about the true God because of these Israelites. They knew that whatever happened to them, they would always trust God. No matter what happens to you today, don't forget the one true God is always with you.
