Idolatry-Discerning: Where's your heart?

Memory Verse

Matthew 6:21

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

1 Timothy 3:16-17

Have you ever gone on a treasure hunt?  Part of the fun is figuring out the clues.  God gave us a treasure hunt, and he put all the clues into one amazing book:  the Bible!  How much do you know about the Bible?

________ 1.  This Bible person went up against a giant, armed only with a slingshot, some small stones, and God.

________ 2.  This Bible person had an angel come to visit with the news that she would be the mother of the SAVIOR.

________ 3.  This Bible person built a huge boat, collected lots of animals, and sailed away during a flood.

________ 4.  This Bible person was a queen in a foreign land who, armed with the prayers of her friends, saved God’s people.

________ 5.  This Bible person was sold into slavery by his brothers, became the second in command in a foreign country, and saved his brothers from starvation.

How did you do?  David knew God was stronger than any human so he defeated the giant Goliath with his slingshot, stones, and faith in God.  Mary was told by an angel that she would be the mother of the Messiah whom God had promised to his people.  Noah built the ark at God’s command. Only he and what was in the ark were not destroyed by the flood.  Even though she could be killed herself, Queen Esther went to the king to ask that the Jewish people not be killed.  The king granted her wish and spared Esther’s people.  Joseph was sold into slavery, but he remained true to God. God used Joseph to save Joseph’s family.

The Bible was written that we may know God and his plan for saving us from our sin. It’s a book full of treasure that God placed so that we could know him.  That’s the ultimate treasure:  to know God!!
