Image-Reflecting: I will not be afraid.

Memory Verse

Psalm 56:3-4

In God I trust, I will not be afraid.

Judges 6-7

Do you ever worry?  You’re not alone.  Gideon was a champion worrier.  He worried a lot, but he always did the right thing when he was worried.  See if you can guess it.

One day the Lord approached Gideon.  The Lord started to say he had chosen Gideon to rescue the Israelites from the wicked Midianites, but Gideon interrupted him.  Gideon said, “Please give me a special sign.  Then I will know that it’s really you talking to me.”

God did a sign to reassure him.  Then God explained his plan to save the Israelites.  Again, Gideon worried.  He said, “Please give me another sign.  I’ll put a piece of wool on the ground.  Suppose the wool is wet tomorrow morning and the ground all around is dry.  Then I will know that you will use me to save Israel.”

God listened to Gideon’s worry.  God drenched the piece of wool and left the ground around it dry.  The next day Gideon asked God to leave the wool dry while all around it was wet. God did it and finally Gideon believed that God was speaking.

Then God told Gideon to lead 300 men against the Midianites.  Again Gideon worried, so God told him, “Why are you afraid?  Go down to the enemy camp and listen to what they are saying.  After that, you will not be afraid to attack the camp.”   So Gideon crept down to the camp and heard the enemy talking about being afraid of God.  Finally, Gideon was ready to fight!

Time after time, Gideon worried about what might happen.  He worried way too much, but each time he told God.  Gideon kept asking God for help.  Each time he was asked, God reassured Gideon.  God didn’t mind helping Gideon to stop worrying.

It’s the same with you.  When you feel worry creeping over you, be like Gideon.  Tell God all about it.  Ask God for his help.  God didn’t let Gideon down. He won’t let you down either.
