Episode ThemeGod-Worshiping: Looking for God's purposes in bad times.
He works out everything to fit his plan and purpose.
Has something that you know ever helped you? Paul once wrote "God works out everything to fit his plan and purpose." (Ephesians 1:11). Paul sure needed to know this when he visited the town of Philippi!
Here's the scoop: Paul was sure that God wanted him to start a church in Philippi, so he and some friends traveled there. They looked for people who already knew about God and wanted to learn more. All they could find were some women by the river. Did Paul give up? No. He taught the women, and they believed in Jesus.
Then Paul and his friend walked through the city, looking for more people to share their good news with. All they found was a slave girl who was bothering them. Did Paul give up on Philippi? No. He healed the slave girl.
Then the slave girl's owners got mad. They had Paul beaten severely and thrown into jail. Did Paul give up? No, he prayed and sang songs to God-right there in the prison cell. Around midnight, an earthquake shook the entire prison open. Did Paul run away? No, he stayed around to talk to the jailer. He told the jailer all about Jesus Christ. He ended the night by baptizing the jailer and the jailer's entire family.
What does God care about most? Paul knew that God wanted him to tell people the good news about Jesus. Paul also knew that as long as he was following God's plan, God would take care of the details. Paul didn't have to worry when things seemed to be going bad in Philippi-God was in control. The same is true for us. We can trust in God's plan for us. After all, "God works out everything to fit his plan and purpose!"
