Servant-Working: Equipped with God's power.

Memory Verse

Zechariah 4:6b

'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.

Have you ever read this verse in the Bible? "'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty." It's a verse from Zechariah. Can you name any Bible stories where the "mighty" person lost and the "weak" person won? Time for a Bible Quiz!

Question 1: What nine foot tall soldier was felled by a shepherd kid with a slingshot and God?

Question 2: What scaredy-cat Israelite defeated the entire Midianite army with 300 scared men, trumpets, jars, torches, and God?

Question 3: Which cranky prophet entered the horrid, nasty town of Ninevah and convinced all the hateful, mean people there to repent of their sins-even though he didn't really want them to know God's grace?

Question 4: Who was born in a foreign country that didn't worship God, had no children when her husband died, and moved with her mother-in-law to Israel and was chosen to be a grandmother of King David and of Christ the LORD?

How did you do? Goliath was a trained soldier. He had the finest armor. He was a giant of a man. With all that going for him, he couldn't defeat young David who relied solely on God! Gideon needed God's reassurance every step of the way (which God willingly supplied), but he defeated the cruel and powerful Midianites only through God! Jonah's message of repentance was heard only because of God-Jonah never wanted the Ninevites to know about God. Ruth was the poor widow who became part of God's own family.

What about you? What are you facing today that is way bigger than you? Remind yourself that nothing is bigger than God. God has never asked us to fight any battle or handle any problem alone. He wants us to turn to him and know that we can accomplish things for God-not by our own strength, but only through the power He provides!
