Episode ThemeIdolatry Discerning. Making wise choices
Listen to advice and accept what you were taught and you will be wise.
Have you ever had to make a decision, but you didn't know what to do? What did you choose? How did you choose it? If you've ever had trouble with knowing the best thing to do, you should meet Joshua.
What if it were up to you? What if you were Joshua...You've just been named the supreme commander of the Israelite army. Your friend Moses has just died, so it is up to you. You have to lead Israel into this land of Canaan. You have to conquer each city-the first city on your map is Jericho.
Jericho has a thick wall all around it. The wall is so thick and so high that people can walk on it and build their homes on it. There's no way to get into Jericho, but somehow you have to do it. How? How are you going to do it? How?
What did Joshua do? He went walking close to the city. He met a messenger of God-a commander of God's own army. Joshua asked this servant of God what God wanted Joshua to do. The commander gave Joshua God's instructions. Joshua thanked him and then followed God's instructions exactly...and the wall of Jericho came tumbling down!
So what should you do when you have a decision to make and you don't know what to do? Do what Joshua did.
- Pray. James 1:5 says, "If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it. He will give it to you."
- Ask other wise Christians for their advice. Proverbs 13:10 says "Those that take advice are wise."
- Read the Bible so that you will know what God says. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your (God's) word in my heart so that I won't sin against you."
If you have to make a decision, be wise. Be like Joshua!
