Episode ThemeImage-Reflecting: How to be a thankful person.
Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Have you ever been embarrassed by someone you know? How would you feel if Moses had been your dad? What if this was your family's story?
You live near your mom's family out in the desert area. Your dad works as a shepherd. One day, he comes home from work and tells your family that God spoke to him from a burning bush. God told your dad to move the family back to Egypt, rescue your dad's extended family from slavery, and lead them to a new place.
Your family then makes the long trip to Egypt. Once you get there, your dad goes to see the Pharaoh. He tells the Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Pharaoh gets upset and orders that the Israelites do even more work each day.
The Israelites complain to your dad. They complain about your dad. They ask him why he came back to Egypt. They ask, why did he come back--just to make life even more miserable? Your dad feels terrible about what is happening. How would you feel?
You would probably be totally embarrassed about what your dad was doing...until that moment, after the 10th plague, when it is your dad leading every single Israelite right out of Egypt. At that moment, you might be incredibly proud of your dad.
So what is the point? It's easy to feel embarrassed by people around us. What is the cure? Focus on the person who is bothering you. What is that person really doing or feeling? Focus on God. How would he want you to handle your feelings of embarrassment? Tell God that you are feeling embarrassed. Ask him what to do about your feelings. After all, the embarrassing person just may turn out to be a hero!
