Racing to Win

Idolatry Discerning. Trophies Worth Winning

Memory Verse

1 Corinthians 9:25

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Have you ever dreamed of being a king or a queen? Have you ever wondered how heavy a crown is? Did you know that the Bible talks about Christians wearing crowns?

In the New Testament of the Bible, several writers compare the crowns of their day with the crowns from Christ. In those days, athletes who won a race were "crowned" with a wreaths made of leaves and flowers. The wreaths showed everyone who the winners (and the losers) were. Athletes spent all of their time training just to win one of these crowns-even though the crown would die and have to be thrown away.

The Bible says Christians will also receive crowns. Not crowns that will wither and die. God's crowns will last forever. God's crowns are called "crowns of glory." God's crowns are promised to his children who believe in him. Jesus, himself, will one day judge the world. Upon the heads of those who love him and believe in him, he will place a crown of eternal life.

Do you want a crown? What kind of a crown? Do you want a crown that will fall apart? Do you want a crown that someone else will wear someday? Or do you want a crown of life that will last forever? What can you do to get this kind of crown? All you have to do is believe in Jesus Christ and he will crown you his child forever!
