Risen Indeed

God-Worshiping: We believe in the resurrection of Jesus!

Memory Verse

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

Have you ever met someone who said, “I think that Jesus was a real person—even a man of God, but there’s no way he rose from the dead.  That’s just too crazy to believe.”  Have you ever been challenged that it is nonsense to believe Jesus is alive?  Do you have a reply?

Jesus did rise from the dead. Let’s look at the evidence.  Jesus spent 40 days after his resurrection talking to people.  Jesus physically appeared to Mary Magdalene, the two disciples walking to Emmaus, 10 of the disciples, and Thomas (who refused to believe Jesus was alive until he could physically see Jesus’ wounds).  Paul wrote that Jesus appeared to more than 500 fellow Christians—many of whom were still alive to testify. (I Corinthians 15:6)  More than 500 witnesses said Jesus was indeed alive!

James was the half-brother of Jesus.  He did not believe in Jesus as anyone’s savior….until Jesus appeared to him.  James then became a major leader of the Christian church.  Paul hated everything to do with Jesus; he hunted Christians down….until he met Jesus.  For the rest of his life, Paul traveled the world and wrote letters—proclaiming Jesus is alive!

The disciples were so afraid the night Jesus was arrested, they ran.   They weren’t scholars, they weren’t brave, they weren’t bold at all….until after Jesus rose.  For the rest of their lives, they boldly proclaimed the good news of Jesus’ salvation to everyone.  Only a truly living Jesus could inspire such a radical transformation in these men!

It’s not crazy to believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day.  It’s very logical to look at the evidence and decide that Jesus did rise from the grave.  But Jesus doesn’t just want us to know that he is alive; Jesus wants our hearts, our lives, our love, all of us!  Jesus died to pay for our sins.  When he rose from the dead, he conquered sin and death—for us!  Hallelujah, Jesus is alive!
