Episode ThemeImage-Reflecting: Witnessing
Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope that you have.
Have you ever really messed up? Have you ever wished you could re-do something that you did badly the first time? Have you ever wanted a "do-over?" Then you should meet Peter.
Poor Peter. He was in the middle of a really scary night. His best friend Jesus had just been arrested. Peter had followed the soldiers and Jesus to the high priest's house. He waited in the courtyard. It was cold that night. There was a fire so Peter sat by it. A servant girl noticed Peter. She said to him, "You were with Jesus."
Stop the story. If you were Peter, what would you have said? Would you have been brave? Or scared? Or both?
Peter was scared. Almost without thinking, he said, "No, I don't know Him."
About an hour later, another person said, "You are one of His followers." Another chance for Peter. What did he say? Peter said, "No, I'm not."
Still another person said, "You must have been with Jesus because you are both from Galilee." For the third time, Peter denied knowing Jesus by saying, "I don't know what you are talking about." At this point, Peter realized what he had done. He left the courtyard and cried. How he must have wished he could "re-do" his answers.
What about you? Has anyone ever asked you about Jesus? Some day, someone will. Will you know what to say? Or, will you run away from the question? Today, with your family, try out your answer. If you have already thought about it, maybe you'll be able to answer when you are asked. You won't need a "do-over."
