Image-Reflecting: Tell the truth about you.

Memory Verse

Proverbs 11:3

Good people are guided by their honesty.

Have you ever been asked to tell the truth and not wanted to? Have you ever had to tell someone the truth even though you knew the truth would hurt them? Have you ever been terrified to tell the truth? Then you should meet Daniel.

Daniel worked for the king—not just any king, but King Nebuchadnezzar, the mightiest king in the whole world! One night King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that made him very afraid. In the dream, he saw a mighty tree that stretched up to the sky and all around the world. Then a messenger ordered the tree to be cut down—destroyed except for the stump that was bound in iron. The messenger said, “He will think and live like an animal and not a man for 7 years.”

No one knew what the dream meant—except for Daniel who was terrified. The king asked Daniel what the dream meant. What would Daniel do? The truth was scary.

Daniel followed God. God values telling the truth, so Daniel chose to tell the truth. The dream was a warning. Nebuchadnezzar was the mighty tree, but if he didn’t stop being so proud, God would drive him out of his palace and force him to live with animals to learn some humility.

Soon after the dream, the king said aloud, “I have done so much because of my mighty power and my majesty.” Immediately God punished him for his pride. Neb spent the next seven years living like a wild animal. Then his senses came back to him and he said, “Praise be only to the King of heaven.”

What about you? The next time you are afraid to tell the truth because it will hurt someone, tell God first. Ask God for courage to tell only the truth. Ask God for help in saying the truth—but tell the truth! It’s the only way to follow God.
