The Disoriented Express, Part 2

Episode Theme

God-Worshiping: Leaning on our own understanding?

Memory Verse

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

Has God ever asked you to trust him no matter what?  Have you ever been too nervous to trust God?  Then you should meet Gideon!

When the angel of the LORD said to Gideon, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior,” Gideon said, “I think God has abandoned my people.”

When the LORD said, “I’m sending you to rescue my people,” Gideon replied, “But I am the weakest person in my family.”

When the LORD said, “I will go with you,” Gideon asked, “Could you give me a sign that it’s really you talking?”  When the LORD gave Gideon a sign, Gideon asked for a second sign—just to make sure.

When the LORD said, “Destroy the altar to idols,”  Gideon did so—in the middle of the night so no one would see him.

When the LORD said, “Get men to come fight with you,” Gideon got 32,000 men!  But then the LORD said, “That’s too many men.  Cut that down to about 300 men.”  When Gideon said, “I’m afraid,” the LORD said, “Go, listen to your enemy.”  When Gideon obeyed, he heard an enemy soldier say, “Gideon’s God is giving us all into the hands of Gideon.”  When Gideon heard those words, he worshiped the LORD and then went out to fight.  When Gideon led his 300 men into battle, God destroyed the enemy soldiers.

When Gideon was afraid, he told God.  When Gideon was nervous, he asked God for a sign of encouragement.  When Gideon thought he was weak, he told God.  When Gideon was asked to trust and obey, he did!  How about you?  When you are afraid, do you tell God?  When you are nervous, do you ask God for encouragement?  When God asks you to trust and obey, do you?  When we keep trusting, keep obeying, keep talking to God, amazing things happen in our lives—just ask Gideon!
