Galatians 5:13

Serve one another in love.

Galatians 5:13-15, 22-23

Being married to someone for a long time is hard.  Can you name these Bible couples who faced some difficult situations?

  1. This couple moved from Nazareth to Bethlehem to Egypt back to Nazareth.  The wife was pregnant before they were married.  They were the parents of the very Son of God.
  2. This couple also had to move a lot.  They moved so much that they lived in tents.  They had many servants and animals, but they didn’t have a baby until they were very old.

  3. This couple was the very first couple ever.  They lived in the Garden of Eden until they sinned and had to leave.  Their first son killed their second son.

How did you do?  Joseph and Mary didn’t have an easy time, especially around the time of Jesus’ birth.  Abraham and Sarah moved obediently whenever the Lord told them.  God also promised them a son, but they had to wait until they were almost 100 years old before their son Isaac was born.  Adam and Eve were the only humans who ever lived in the Garden of Eden.  Even after Cain killed Abel, they still trusted and talked to God.

What do all these Bible couples have in common?  They all had God in their marriages.  They all faced the hard times with God’s help.  They all loved each other and served each other.  That’s what a lasting marriage is all about:  Two people with faith in God joining with God to love and to serve each other forever.

You may not be ready for marriage yet, but you can resolve to marry someone with faith in God and to love and serve that person for your whole life.
