Idolatry-Discerning: Greed / Revenge

Memory Verse

Proverbs 15:27

Anyone who always wants more brings trouble to his family.

Hebrews 13:16

Have you ever wanted more…More…MORE of something?  Sometimes this wanting MORE can get crazy until it’s all someone can think about!  Wanting MORE shoves away happiness.  Do you know what the antidote for always wanting MORE is?

The solution is something that a woman named Dorcas, a young boy with a small picnic lunch, and Jesus all had in common.  What do you think these three people knew?

The answer is that they knew how to share.  Acts 9 says that people who knew Dorcas described her this way:  she was always doing good and helping poor people.  They showed Peter all of the clothes that she made for other people.  Is that how you would describe someone who only wants MORE  MORE  MORE?

The young boy came to hear Jesus talk.  He was smart because he brought a picnic lunch with him.  His lunch was five small loaves of bread and two small fish.  When the disciples of Jesus were frantically looking for enough food to feed more than 5,000 people, this boy offered his own little lunch.  John 6 says that Jesus took the boy’s food and fed the whole crowd with it.  That young boy must have had quite the story to tell his family that night!

Jesus shared everything he had with all of us.  Matt. 20:28 says “Jesus did not come to be served.  Instead, he came to serve others.  He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free.”  Jesus was willing to share even his own life with us.

What’s the best way to fight an attack of “I WANT MORE!”?    Sharing.  Share something you have or can do with someone else.  Try it today.  Write down 2 ways you can share yourself with someone else today.  You’ll love the feeling you get from sharing!
