Memory Verse

Colossians 2:8

Some people may try to make you believe false ideas. Be careful that you do not believe them. Those ideas may seem clever, but they will lead you away from God ... those ideas belong to this world. They do not come from Christ.

Has trouble ever visited you? What does it look like? Is it scary and mean? Or is it friendly and polite at first? What do you do when trouble comes?

The apostle Paul painted a picture of us being warriors or soldiers for God. Paul said that trouble likes to sneak up on us and catch us off guard. That's why armor is so important to defend us against trouble.

What is a Christian's armor? How do we defend ourselves from trouble? Paul wrote in Ephesians 6 that our armor can protect us from all of the devil's schemes against us. Here is our full armor:

  • The Belt of Truth.
  • The Breastplate of Righteousness.
  • Shoes of the gospel of Peace.
  • The Shield of Faith.
  • The Helmet of Salvation.
  • The Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

How do we put on our armor? By praying. Paul said," Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying." (Ephesians 6: 18). We defend ourselves against trouble using God's protection and his strength.

Be careful. Trouble is sneaky. It's one way the devil uses to push us away from God. Prayer is the best antidote to any kind of trouble lurking around! Pray!
