Community-Building: We all are God's workmanship.

Memory Verse

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

King David was God's chosen leader for Israel. He had conquered the neighboring countries, set up his capital city, and built a beautiful palace for his family. He was the King!

Mephibosheth's life was very different. Most of his family had been killed in a fierce battle when he was only 5 years old. On the same day that his family was killed, Mephibosheth was accidentally dropped. Both of his legs were damaged so much that he would never walk again. Because he was lame and his family was dead, he had no job. He had no place to live other than with another Israelite who let Mephibosheth live with him.

Then one day, when Mephibosheth was grown up, he was summoned to meet King David. He must have been very scared, because he was a member of Saul's family, the former king. Would the king be angry at him for what Saul did?

What did the King of Israel and Mephibosheth talk about? They were respectful to each other. They were kind to each other. They started talking about something they both had in common:Mephibosheth's dead father Jonathan had once been David's best friend. After their conversation, King David invited Mephibosheth to live in the palace and eat at David's table. Mephibosheth spend the rest of his life supporting David as his king.

Everybody that you meet is celebrated and valued, because they are made in the image of God. When we meet another person, we are on holy ground, because that person is an image bearer. Seeing all people as image bearers gives value and equality to everyone.  Be respectful. Be kind. Be on the look-out for things you have in common. You will make a new friend!
