Episode ThemeCommunity- Building: Kindness, Respect for others
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.
What would you do? Suppose you live in a small village. One day, you hear that Jesus is headed straight towards your house.
You have heard of Jesus. Perhaps, you have even met Him. It is quite an honor that Jesus would want to stop at your house to rest after a long journey. You gladly open your home to Jesus and to His followers.
You run quickly to clean rooms. Food for many people must be prepared. You realize you are not making a dinner for Jesus. You must cook a banquet for many people. Your "to-do" list grows and grows.
The excitement you first felt about Jesus coming to your house changes to worry. There is so much to do. How on earth will you get everything done? You want everything to be perfect for Jesus. Suddenly, you realize that you have not seen your younger sister. She should be helping you. Where is she? You search for her. You find her. She is sitting by Jesus, listening to Him talk.
How dare she sit when there is so much to do! You feel furious with her for not helping you. You are so angry, you approach Jesus and say, "Don't you care that my sister has left me with all the work by myself? Tell her to help me."
Jesus calmly looks at your sister and then at you. His answer surprises you. "You are worried about many things, but only one thing is needed. Your sister has chosen what is better. It will not be taken away from her."
What does He mean? You realize that your preparations have taken away the joy of having Jesus in your home. Your good manners became more important than your guest. What is the cure? Don't let the manners ever become more important than the person. The person just may be Jesus.
