Episode ThemeServant Working:Armor of God
A soldier ... wants to please his commanding officer (2 Timothy 2:4) . Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
Once upon a time a minister walked through the slums of a city. He noticed many taverns where too many fathers spent their days, drinking up the money that their families needed to survive. He noticed poor people, homeless people, hungry people. This man, William Booth, decided that he should do something. But what? He and his wife decided to bring Jesus to these people living in the streets. They opened a Christian Mission in 1865. They gathered an army of volunteers to help them. Three years later, Mr. Booth decided that his volunteer army needed a name to show why they did what they did. He chose the name "Salvation Army."
Today, the Salvation Army feeds the hungry, gives shelter to the homeless, provides aid to victims of disasters, and offers the comfort of Jesus to everyone. More than 3 million volunteers help more than 30 million people each year. All of these good things began with one man who wanted to help in Jesus' name.
What about you? A brand new year brings a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to be part of God's army. Can you think of 2 ways to help someone? Plan out your mission:
Each Sunday, take turns telling how you helped shine the light of God's love on someone the past week. You may not be old enough to be a Salvation Army bell ringer at Christmastime, but you can do your part right now to stamp out loneliness and hunger with God's love and hope. Onward, Christian Soldier!
