Theme: Fear Not!

What makes you afraid?  Joshua, leader of the Israelites, had a lot to fear:  leading a huge group of people who got scared quickly, crossing a scary river, and then fighting against people living in a city surrounded by huge walls.  But Joshua had a special weapon against fear.  He trusted God!

Read about how God gave Joshua courage and lead him step by step in Joshua 1-6.

  • Act out Joshua’s story: the spies and Rahab, crossing the Jordan River, conquering Jericho. Talk about the people’s job and God’s job for each part of the story.
  • Joshua used twelve stones to remind the people of God whenever they were afraid. Build a monument of clay bricks. As you add each brick to the pile, have each person tell of a time of being afraid and how God gave courage.

    Isaiah 43:1-3

But now, this is what the LORD says…Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
