Theme: Fear Not!
What makes you afraid? Joshua, leader of the Israelites, had a lot to fear: leading a huge group of people who got scared quickly, crossing a scary river, and then fighting against people living in a city surrounded by huge walls. But Joshua had a special weapon against fear. He trusted God!
Read about how God gave Joshua courage and lead him step by step in Joshua 1-6.
Act out Joshua’s story: the spies and Rahab, crossing the Jordan River, conquering Jericho. Talk about the people’s job and God’s job for each part of the story.
Joshua used twelve stones to remind the people of God whenever they were afraid. Build a monument of clay bricks. As you add each brick to the pile, have each person tell of a time of being afraid and how God gave courage.
But now, this is what the LORD says…Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
