Simple Little Words- Book Recommendation
The old nursery rhyme "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" was completely backwards. Words have the power to do the most damage or do the most good. Here is a good book to check out this summer about the power of our words. It's called Simple Little Words: What You Say Can Change a Life by Michelle Cox and John Perrodin (David C. Cook, 2008). The purpose of this book is not only to impress on the reader the dramatic impact our words can have on our children, but also to provide specific ways in which we may use our words to build up our children.
One example is the 10 Simple Little Phrases to Encourage Kids:
- I love you.
- You can do it.
- I'm so proud of you.
- I'm glad God gave you to me.
- You are priceless.
- I was wrong.
- I am sorry.
- I love being with you.
- You are fun to talk to.
- You are a blessing to everyone who knows you.
