"Real Teens" by George Barna

America's culture will be changing again as a new generation soon steps into the spotlight behind the Baby Boomers and Generation X. What does the future hold for our teenagers? How can our parenting best prepare our teens? How can churches best work with this new generation?

If you are curious about our current teens—what they think and believe and who they are—check out George Barna's book Real Teens. Barna surveyed more than 3,000 teens and asked them questions about their values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Finally, Barna uses the data from his surveys to give direction to parents and church youth workers on how to best nurture our teens into adulthood. Real Teens is an analytical, descriptive look at our teens—including their spiritual lives. It is available at www.barna.org.

Understanding our teens is important as we guide them into adulthood as followers of Jesus. Preparing our children for their teens is also important—and this is what parents do when they instill biblical principles in the hearts and minds of their children during their pre-teen years.

Never underestimate the ability of your pre-school and elementary age children to embrace Jesus as their Friend and Savior. When we give them Jesus in their early years, they are able to stand strong as teens and young adults.
