March 2009

God our Creator

March is the month where winter (supposedly) loses its power and melts into spring. It's also a great month to focus on God our Creator by using Psalm 104. Here are some ideas:

Memorize parts of Psalm 104, a hymn to our Creator God.

Verse 2: He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent.

Verse 3: He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.

Verse 24: How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.

Verse 28: when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified.

Hold a family competition. How many "things" can you name that God has created. Write slips of paper and fill a huge container. Find or make pictures of things created by God and create a bulletin board.

Revel in God's creation together. Fly a kite. Visit a zoo. Walk somewhere different. Find books at the library with pictures of far-off places or unusual animals.

There are so many things to celebrate about our God. His creation-even though it has been affected by sin-gives us a beautiful, majestic, and powerful picture of the God who created us. Spring is a great time to celebrate God and his creation!
