Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day! It’s time to celebrate and to refresh the mothers in our lives. Reflecting on the most famous Christian mother is one way to renew our hearts in God!

Why was Mary chosen to become the mother of God’s only Son? Luke 1 says the angel told Mary she had found favor with God. After being told of God’s plan for her life—a plan that would turn her life upside down—Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.”

When Jesus was twelve, he lingered in God’s house to talk to the teachers. After Mary and Joseph found him, the Bible says that Jesus returned to Nazareth and “was obedient to them” and “grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and men.” (Luke 2) Jesus learned obedience—even to the cross—from his mother’s teachings and her very life!

When Jesus performed his very first miracle, he did so because of his mother’s concern about the host of a wedding party being embarrassed and because she believed that Jesus was powerful enough to help. Jesus spent the rest of his ministry using his power to help hopeless and helpless people around him. He must have learned to notice other’s needs from his own mother’s teaching and her very life!

When Jesus was hanging on the cross, Mary was there. Her heart must have been breaking, but she did not abandon her son. Jesus has promised that he will never abandon us—he went to that cross to keep that promise. He must have learned about being faithful from his mother’s teaching and her very life!

Thank the godly mothers in your life for their teaching and their very lives that have influenced you. Celebrate how through you their teaching and their lives will affect your children and their children’s children. Rest in the knowledge that Jesus will guide you every step for the rest of your life! Happy Mother’s Day!
