What to Memorize?

Psalm 119: 105 says to God “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path,” but what verses are important for our children to memorize? Here are some suggestions of Bible verses that can be memorized and used to talk about important beliefs of Christians:

Why do we need a Savior? “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Why did Jesus have to die? “…and without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22

Why did God send Jesus? “For God so loved that world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

How else can we be saved? “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6

What must we do to be saved? “They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.’” Acts 16:31

Won’t our good deeds count? “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2: 8-9

What about after we are saved? “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” II Peter 3:18

How can we serve God? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12: 30-31

What gives us courage? “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

What gives us wisdom? “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
