Community-Building: Teamwork

Saying the memory verse together at suppertime will imprint it on the hearts of your children forever.

Ecclesiastes 4:12

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

A relationship that includes God is like a cord or rope. A cord with three strands will have more strength to withstand the stress of life than it would if God were not one of the strands. Philippians 4:13 comes to mind—I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. If my hand is in Christ’s, then I am strong enough to face whatever comes. What an important truth to instill in our children! Will you do this this week?

How well did you listen to the story?

Q. What career does Lizz think he’d like to try when he grows up?
A. A chef.

Q. What job is he assigned to by Granny for Vacation Bible School?
A. He is to lead a team preparing food.

Q. Who else was assigned to the kitchen?
A. Spike and Lucille.

Q. Why did Lucille and Spike quit?
A. Because Lizz didn’t work with them as a team.

Q. What did Granny do when she realized what was happening?
A. She fired Lizz and made the food herself.

This question is meant to help the children develop a biblical understanding of God, who He is and what He does. The "answer" is not meant for parents to read to their children. Rather its purpose is to assist parents in guiding the conversation to this biblical understanding. We encourage you to use an open Bible in this conversation, building biblical literacy and well as a biblical theology.

Is it important for Christians to be part of a team where Christ is in the center?

Yes, it is. When we are a part of a church, or small group we are given strength to live for Jesus. Look up Hebrews 10:23-25 and discuss how this is similar to the theme of Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.

Have you been trying to do something on your own, without God? Ask God to forgive you and tell God that you want to be on a team where God is what holds you together and makes you strong.
