Power Trip 1

THEME

God-Worshiping: One God ruling over all things.

MEMORY VERSE

Saying the memory verse together at suppertime will imprint it on the hearts of your children forever.

Ephesians 6:12

For we don’t struggle against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil.

NOTES

This episode is the first of three episodes that introduce the topic of spiritual warfare. The verse for this episode is Ephesians 6:12. It’s a verse that alerts us to the fact that there is an unseen struggle going on. This verse also introduces the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-16). The spiritual forces of evil are working against the kingdom of God.  This topic is not meant to scare our listeners, rather it is meant to alert them to the fact that there are unseen forces that work against God and his people. And it is meant to show our listeners the power they have in Christ to overcome. The episodes are positive and upbeat, motivating our listeners to be confident because they have the weapons that are sure to defeat the spiritual forces of evil, the weapons of God’s armor, God’s spirit, and God’s love.

GOOD QUESTION

This question is meant to help the children develop a biblical understanding of God, who He is and what He does. The "answer" is not meant for parents to read to their children. Rather its purpose is to assist parents in guiding the conversation to this biblical understanding. We encourage you to use an open Bible in this conversation, building biblical literacy and well as a biblical theology.

Q.

Can there be more than one true God? What does the Bible say?

A.

While we often hear from our society today that one god is as good as another, and that there can be more than one god, the Bible clearly states that there is one God who rules all things, even other gods. Read the story in 1 Samuel 5 as an example of the supremacy of God. Also look at 1 Corinthians 8:6, Ephesians 4:4-6, and 1 Timothy 2:5.

Q.

What does God give us to protect us in the struggle against the forces of evil?

A.

His special armor – see Ephesians 6:10-16.

SO WHAT?

Is there anything that you “worship?” Do you put other things before, or alongside, of God? Pray and talk with God about it, asking him to forgive you for failing to completely dedicate your life to him.

Does all this talk about spiritual forces of evil scare you? Why? Talk this over with your parents and memorize this verse: 1 John 4:4 – “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
