Running In Circles

THEME

Justice-Seeking: God uncovers sin.

MEMORY VERSE

Saying the memory verse together at suppertime will imprint it on the hearts of your children forever.

Hebrews 4:13

Nothing God created is hidden from him. His eyes see everything. He will hold us accountable for everything we do.

NOTES

Knowing that God knows my secrets motivates me to do everything-the private as well as the public-in such a way that I am not ashamed that God sees me. It assures me that I am important, so important that God cares about everything I do, say, and think. It also makes me even more thankful for Jesus and His righteousness, which covers me and enables me to enter the presence of God and be a member of God's family.

Sometimes it seems that children have a better sense of God's presence than adults. They readily accept that God sees them and cares about them. This lesson reminds them that there are no secrets from God. We want to assure them that their secrets are safe with God, and that God loves and accepts them, secrets and all.

GOOD QUESTION

This question is meant to help the children develop a biblical understanding of God, who He is and what He does. The "answer" is not meant for parents to read to their children. Rather its purpose is to assist parents in guiding the conversation to this biblical understanding. We encourage you to use an open Bible in this conversation, building biblical literacy and well as a biblical theology.

Q.
Can you keep a secret from God?
A.
Sometimes we'd like to think so. But the Bible tells us otherwise. God sees everything (Psalm 44:21) and the light of his presence uncovers all our secrets (Psalm 90:8). Someday when we meet God in heaven everything we thought was secret will come to light. A scary thought unless our sins are forgiven by Jesus who cleanses us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:8,9). Knowing that God knows our secrets should drive us to our knees in humility and gratitude for "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

SO WHAT?

Is there something in your life that you have been trying to keep secret from God? Talk it over with Him today, confess your sin, resolve not to do it again, and receive God forgiveness.Tell a family member who can then keep you accountable.
