MEMORY VERSE

Saying the memory verse together at suppertime will imprint it on the hearts of your children forever.

2 Peter 3:13

But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

NOTES

‘A new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.’ This is what God has in store for all who have received from Jesus the cure for their sin problem. It sounds so beautiful, so peaceful, so right. And it will be. We get glimpses of what this will be like when all people who believe come together to worship or to work together in service. It’s hard for us to imagine what this will be like. One of my favorite descriptions comes from C. S. Lewis’ final book of his Narnian Chronicles. It could be the saddest ending that you can imagine, a whole family killed in a train crash. And  it was very, very sad. But C. S. concludes, “But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and  and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

Restoration started at the fall. The cost is inestimable. But the promise is more than we can imagine.

Creation—Fall—Redemption—Restoration. “Look I am making everything new.”

GOOD QUESTION

This question is meant to help the children develop a biblical understanding of God, who He is and what He does. The "answer" is not meant for parents to read to their children. Rather its purpose is to assist parents in guiding the conversation to this biblical understanding. We encourage you to use an open Bible in this conversation, building biblical literacy and well as a biblical theology.

Q.

Read Revelation 21: 1-8, 22: 1-5. What does this tell you about God? What does it tell you about heaven?

A.

These verses give us a picture of things that we can’t imagine. But they do tell us about our God. His home will be with us, he will dwell with us! We will be his people. It will be a reunion with us seeing our Heavenly Father face to face for the first time. And when he comes, he comes to comfort and affirm. How wonderful it will be when God wipes our tears with the handkerchief of his love and there will no longer be disease, decay, or death.

SO WHAT?

Draw a picture of what you think heaven will be like. Share it with your family at dinner time.
