In this episode, Liz decides to go to a concert instead of listening to his mother and taking care of his aunt’s dog. He quickly learns his lesson.

1 Samuel 15:22 says that “To obey is better than sacrifice.” Sacrificing animals to the Lord was part of the law that the Israelites had to obey in the Old Testament. So, if they had to obey the law and sacrifice, why does the verse say it’s better to obey than to sacrifice?

It’s because there are two ways to obey. You can do something because you have to. Or you can do something because you love the person you’re doing it for and want to obey them. When we read the Bible or go to church or serve in some way, we should do it because we want to make the Lord happy with our obedience.

Challenge

For the next week, whenever your parents ask you to do something, respond by saying, “I love you.” And then happily do what they ask you to do to show them you really mean it.
