Reflect

In this episode, Liz and Lucille enter a manners contest on a television show. Today, manners might sometimes seem old-fashioned. Television, movies, and conversations show rude behavior and arguing as normal.

When you use manners, you show that you are respectful and kind. Every person deserves respect. That’s because we are all made in God’s image (Genesis 5:1-2). When we see the image of God in every person we can know that it is important to treat them with respect.

The best place to learn and practice manners is at home. Treating your family with respect, using manners at the table, in your online activities and on the phone are good things to practice! You can praise God when you use your good manners to show that you love your neighbor.

Challenge

Have a family manners party! Set the dinner table with fancy dishes and glasses. Practice using your best table manners, saying “please” and “thank you”. Make sure you are being polite by listening carefully to the person who is speaking and not interrupting. Discuss with your family why manners are important. Talk about which manners you will practice using this week.
