Episode Theme: All things for good.

1. Romans 8:28 tells us that in all situations God works for good for those who love him. That does not mean that all situations are good. Sometimes bad things happen to Christians, but God is always present. Think about times when you have been sad or afraid or hurt. How did God remind you that he was with you?

2. Paul and Silas were missionaries who were beaten and thrown in jail for healing a slave girl. What a horrible thing to happen! Even in jail, however, they encouraged each other. They prayed and sang praise songs. They reminded each other that God was with them. Listen to the story of Paul and Silas, or read more about it in Acts 16:16-40. Think about ways could you encourage someone who is suffering as you listen to today’s episode.

Memory Verse

“And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”

After You Listen

In this episode, Spike comforts someone who is afraid. In 1 Kings 19:1-8, the prophet Elijah was being chased by an evil queen who was trying to kill him. He was so tired and frightened that he was ready to give up! God needed to encourage Elijah and remind him that God would always be with him. God sent an angel to bring Elijah food and water, not just once, but twice! The angel didn’t come with a lot of words, he just came to show Elijah that God understood Elijah’s pain, and that he would provide what was needed. Knowing that God would take care of him, Elijah was able to continue to carry out God’s plans.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” ~Fred Rogers

There are so many scary and upsetting things in the news sometimes. It is good to follow Mr. Rogers’ mother’s advice and look for the helpers. Who do you see who are bringing comfort to those who are scared and hurting? Could you be one of those people?
