Episode Theme: Treasuring our friends.

1. Proverbs 17:17 talks about friendship. Have you ever been involved in a fight between two friends? How did it get resolved?

2. What does it mean to “love at all times”? Proverbs 17:9 says, “You will keep your friends if you forgive them, but you will lose your friends if you keep talking about what they did wrong.” Love between friends is not a feeling. It is a choice you make. As you listen to this episode, think about the friends you value. What are you willing to do for them?

After You Listen

In this episode, Liz’s dad reminds Lucille how valuable friendships are, and it helps her look past the problems of the school dance. Lucille gets caught in the middle of a friend fight.

In 1 Samuel 18, King Saul becomes jealous of David. Why? David is younger, stronger, popular, and most importantly—he obeys God. Saul even comes to hate David so much, he decides to kill him. Jonathan is caught in the middle of this fight. He is the king’s son, but he is also David’s best friend. Whose side will Jonathan be on? Actually, Jonathan can teach us some things about feuding friends. He never betrays his father—he obeys his father as a soldier and as a son. Jonathan never betrays David either—he warns David that Saul is serious about killing him.

There was nothing David or Jonathan could ever do to change Saul. They chose wisely to obey God. They made sure their actions and words to each other and to Saul honored God. They didn’t let Saul’s behavior destroy their friendship or their trust in God.

It’s the same for us. If you ever find yourself in the middle of a friendship feud, you may not be able to fix it by yourself. But you can talk to God, ask for his help, and watch your words and actions so they honor God!
