Episode Theme: Kindness, Respect for others.

1. Matthew 7:12 says, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Think of how you acted towards others today. Would you want someone to act that way toward you? Why or why not?

2. In Matthew 22:34-40, the religious leaders and teachers of the law were trying to trap Jesus into giving bad answers so they could arrest him. But he kept amazing all of them with his answers. Then an expert of the law asked Jesus which command was the greatest. So he told the crowds who were listening to him that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Then Jesus said the second is just like it. It is to love your neighbor as yourself. When we love our neighbors as ourselves we treat them with respect. And when we use good manners we are showing respect to them. Think about how using manners are one way to obey the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves as you listen to today’s program.

After You Listen

In this episode, Liz and Lucille enter a manners contest on a television show. Today, manners might sometimes seem old-fashioned. Television, movies, and conversations show rude behavior and arguing as normal.

When you use manners, you show that you are respectful and kind. Every person deserves respect. That’s because we are all made in God’s image (Genesis 5:1-2). When we see the image of God in every person we can know that it is important to treat them with respect.

The best place to learn and practice manners is at home. Treating your family with respect, using manners at the table, in your online activities and on the phone are good things to practice! You can praise God when you use your good manners to show that you love your neighbor.
