Episode Theme: Glorify God

1. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says that everything you do—even if it’s just eating and drinking—should make God look good. How often do you do things to make yourself look good?

2. Being a servant is not very glorious. Usually no one notices servants, and they don’t get to do very important jobs. In John 2:1-12, Jesus asks servants at a wedding to do a small job. They have to take some water to the master of the feast. When they do, the water has turned to wine! The small things these servants did made them a part of Jesus’ first miracle! Think about the small jobs you do as you listen today’s episode.

Memory Verse

After You Listen

In this episode, Liz is disappointed that the speaker for his class for Career Day has a “boring” job. In the Bible, David had one of those small, stinky, unexciting jobs. He was a shepherd. He spent his days out in fields protecting sheep from wild animals. Several times, God protected David from animals like lions, so David was able to see God’s power. In 1 Samuel 17 a giant called Goliath was threatening the people of Israel. David had seen God’s faithfulness in his small, stinky shepherd job. So, David knew that God would protect him. He had the confidence to say, “I will stop this giant. My God and I will do it! That’s exactly what happened. David took a stone, put it into his slingshot, and killed that mighty giant.

What about you? Do you feel like God only wants you to do small things that nobody notices? Maybe God is using these small jobs to prepare you for something great. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says we should do everything for the glory of God. It worked for David. And it’s the best way for you to live your life too!

Dig deeper and find out more about how boring, stinky shepherds got to be a part of God’s biggest plan in Luke 2:8-20.
